Bar Stool Course - September

In this four-day course, we delve deeper into the fundamentals of chairmaking. In collaboration with furniture maker Dirk Ettema, you'll design and build your own bar stool, using entirely hand tools and traditional techniques.

During the course, you'll learn how to plane, saw, and create strong wood joints, and we'll pay close attention to creating a comfortable seat. The bar stool consists of more components than a milk stool, allowing for a deeper exploration of construction, proportions, and various technical solutions.

For four days, you'll work intensively in a small group, with continuous guidance and explanation from both of us. There's plenty of time for attention, questions, and refining your work. At the end of the course, you'll go home with a bar stool of your own design—made with your hands, built from an understanding of materials and techniques.
